VIRILES – Compagnie KYNLAUS

Five men. Five lives shaped by an inherited masculinity, almost etched into their very being. On stage, they confront others, themselves, striving to embody an ideal that transcends them. Then a crack appears. Beneath the tension, long-suppressed emotions surface, along with intimacy and sensitivity. They traverse their own constructs as if they were a terrain to be deconstructed, allowing fragility, ambivalence, and nuance to emerge. Between control and surrender, they seek balance, a more intimate truth.

Performed by five female dancers, the piece shifts perspectives and unsettles established norms. In a world where "being a man is, above all, not being a woman," Viriles features five dancers who question the dictates of gender and masculinity. Gender boundaries blur, identities shift. A space opens up where everyone can redefine their body and how they inhabit it. Through contemporary choreography, they explore, subvert, and challenge the codes associated with virility, ultimately seeking to break free from them.
